Tshering Wangdi was born in the Sha valley (Wangdiphodrang) and attended school there. He moved to Thimphu in his later years and finished the 2 year diploma course in tourism management and guide course. He also took part in the tour leader training organized by Explore Worldwide from the United Kingdom. Tshering enjoys reading and watching discovery and National Geographic television programs. His interests include photography, hiking and trekking. He is a keen mountain biker for health and liesure.
